Delegates from across the South converged at Zurich’s
offices in based in Hampshire to attend their first Continuous
Professional Development CPD) event as part of their Chartered
Insurance Institute (CII) corporate membership scheme. Zurich teamed
up with the Southampton CII Institute to host the event which was
titled “Floods - The Aftermath, The Future”. Cliff Skeates, Market Underwriting Director at Zurich, welcomed more than 120 delegates and a panel of four presenters to the seminar by setting the scene with an overview of the floods and other narrowly avoided catastrophes the UK faced during 2007. Panellists presented different perspectives of the risks flood poses to the UK, providing the audience with a fascinating insight into catastrophe modelling, flood mapping, sea level changes and the impact on local economies and tourism, claims responses and the ongoing challenges faced by our industry. A lively Q&A session ensued, covering angles from new build property development on flood plains, to American style loss adjusting methods. Speakers from Zurich, the Environment Agency, Norwich Union & Cunningham Lindsey kept the audience engaged with talks on catastrophe modelling, the excellent ongoing work of claims responses and the threat flooding poses. Southampton Institute President Neil Sinclair commented that "This event generated impressive support from our local members and Zurich employees that have recently joined the CII. The forward looking nature of this event ensured it was a success." Event Organiser, Kat Riall, Training Consultant at Zurich hailed the seminar a resounding success saying “Enhancing the existing strong links with the CII & the local Institutes is essential in ensuring the continuous professional development of our people, who ultimately provide our customers with the superior service they deserve. We are looking forward to planning future events through 2008.”
